Dear Minister Rona Ambrose

I am writing this letter not just as a Canadian citizen but as a representative of all the inhabitants of our only home , the earth . This is to challenge your leadership to do something to the increasing amount of the greenhouse gases that [banner_entry_middle]

contribute to global warming . As we all know global warming poses real threat . Although the exact nature of these risks remains uncertain , scientists are convinced that it causes the major environmental problems we are experiencing today such as the loss of land due to the rising of sea level , flooding , drought , water shortages , air pollution problems , diseases , death of animals and plants . Ultimately , this is why we have to prepare for the worst

Scientists are certain that among the greenhouse gases that increase the temperature of the atmosphere , CO2 contributes 60 of these gases Scientists have studied that the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide has increased from about 280 parts per million approximately 100 years ago to 360 parts per million today . Each individual contributes to about 4 ,800 pounds of carbon equivalent or nearly 32 of the carbon emissions . Since this is the basis for concern about global warming then this is where we should act . The CO2 released to the atmosphere must be lessened

As a global citizen , I feel responsible to raise consciousness about this environmental issue as all of us are affected by this catastrophic phenomenon . Thus I urge you to develop possible solutions to the global warming problems . Solutions that would create clear environmental benefits . Let ‘s do our share in this global environmental issue . With science in our side , let us determine what the most appropriate response to global warming should be

The fate of the generations to come is at stake . We must act now before it ‘s too late . This is the challenged . is the environmental issue which concerns us all I hope this letter merits your attention

Sincerely

Global warming is the increasing temperature of the earth ‘s air and water . This warming is caused by the accumulation of the so called greenhouse gases in the earth ‘s atmosphere . Greenhouse gases includes carbon dioxide (CO2 , methane (CH4 , nitrous oxide (N2O hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs , perfluorocarbons (PFCs , sulfur hexafluoride (SF6 ) and ozone (O3 . Global warming occurs because these gases trap infrared radiation or heat , which normally would dissipate into space causing the earth ‘s temperature to rise

According to the National Academy of Sciences , the warming trend of about 1 ?F since the late 19th century has risen to about 5 .5 ?F by the beginning of this century . So , they expect that the average global surface temperature may rise to 1-4 .5 ?F (0 .6-2 .50 ?C ) in the next fifty years , and 2 .2-10 ?F (1 .4-5 .8 ?C ) in the next century . The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC 2001 ) stated that there is a new and stronger evidence that most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is due to human activities . These activities include burning coal , oil , and natural gas in power plants , factories , forest fires and automobiles . In addition , the use of refrigerators and air conditioners releases CFC`s . These human activities changed the natural composition of the atmosphere by increasing the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere

Scientists have accepted that this global warming could cause a rise in sea level , which would result to flooding and loss of land . It causes changes in precipitation patterns which would result to frequent drought and thus water shortages . Living things are greatly affected which might cause problems in agriculture , death of forests , and worst the extinction of animals and plants

But many environmentalists also believed that this environmental issue can be deal with prevention (stop the greenhouse gases from polluting the air , mitigation (at least lessening the rate of global warming and adaptation (make some adjustments and live with it
