Domestic terrorism

In the United States , during the 20th century , there was emergence of various domestic terrorist organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan , Aryan Nation , and Michigan Militia . These domestic terrorist groups were established with a particular purpose . These organizations justified their actions by claiming that major political institutions had implemented policies that did not lead to the welfare of the American people . Many of these domestic terrorist groups believed in white supremacy and worked in to achieve the greatest status of white communities in the American society

like the Ku Klux Klan did not hesitate to use violence in to achieve their aims . They also possessed weapons necessary to fight against the government or their enemies such as non-white population , although ultimately these organizations failed to achieve their goal of establishing supremacy of American white population . For example , the Ku Klux Klan could not preserve segregation policy in America , which led to the emergence of equality between white and black population . In this an attempt will be made to discuss a few terrorist groups that worked within America and destabilized administration and social tranquility

Above-mentioned domestic terrorist groups have participated in anti government rhetoric and actions . The leaders of these groups tried to achieve their goal of establishing white America by the use of violent means such as attacking government buildings , bombing , and killing innocent civilians . It is interesting to note that at one point of time it was thought that domestic terrorism did not exist in America as the government gave greater importance to the aspects related to international terrorism . This assumption was proved wrong when a few federal officers succeeded in obtaining evidence regarding the functioning of domestic terrorist groups in the USA . Domestic terrorist groups have been using latest technology such as Internet in to spread their messages among the people (Downey , 2000

During 1960s , the Ku Klux Klan had emerged as a major terrorist organization , which aimed at attacking the government and black population in to establish white supremacy in America . Inspired by the activities of the Ku Klux Klan , there was emergence , in the 1980s of militia groups such as the Aryan Nations , National Alliance , and the Christian Identity Church . Domestic terrorist groups believed that people like Jews , blacks , Catholics , and homosexuals were responsible for the ills of the society . Therefore , these terrorist groups have attacked non white population and government buildings in to express their dissatisfaction with the government policies (Downey 2000 ,

. 172 ) Many American cities consist of the branches of right-wing domestic terrorist groups . During 1980s , the Aryan Nations organization was active in Idaho . In the recent years in the regions such as Birmingham and Alabama , there has been emergence of another group called Aryan National Front . This organization is closely associated with Ku Klux Klan although it has not participated in any violent events in America .
