President Clinton ‘s Famous Speech

.Murrah federal building in Oklahoma City at around 9 :02 in the morning of April 19 1995 . The truck contains about 5 ,000 pounds of explosive material and exploded right then and there killing around 168 people . The event was to become the deadliest domestic terrorist attack in the history of the United States and was the deadliest act of terrorism within U .S bs until September 11 , 2001 (wikipedia .org retrieved September 30 , 2006 p [banner_entry_middle]

The United States President at that time was William J .Clinton who , four days after the incident , delivered a heartwarming speech entitled Time for Healing Ceremony , Oklahoma City (1995

President Clinton ‘s speech opened with a sympathetic greeting to the families of those who have been lost and wounded during the Oklahoma bombing . He spoke of grief and sincere symphatiesfor the victims which included at least 19 school children from the building day care center

The speech was festooned with all the right amount of mournful and sympathetic words the President could possibly offer . On the 5th paragraph of his speech , President Clinton has the following words to say

This terrible sin took the lives of our American family , innocent children in that building only because their parents were trying to be good parents as well as good workers , citizens in the building going about their daily business and many there who served the rest of us , who worked to help the elderly and the disabled , who worked to support our farmers and our veterans , who worked to enforce our laws and to protect us . Let us say clearly , they served us well , and we are grateful . But for so many of you they were also neighbors and friends . You saw them at church or the PTA meetings , at the civic clubs , at the ball park . You know them in ways that all the rest of America could not

Denton Holloway (1996 ) mentioned that such words tug at the very core of one ‘s heart . When children are hit by these inhuman activities , they are sure to gain everybody ‘s sympathy for they are innocent and are therefore not capable of defending themselves against such threats

All the victims of the said bombing were caught unaware . They were going about their daily activities in the usual way not knowing that their end is about to unfold before them . Nobody imagined such an incident could take place in America . The United States is believed to be indispensable and untouchable until this incident shook the nation and until the September 11 , 2001 attacks erased this image of the America most of us have come to know . Now , it seems no nation is free from these attacks anymore since even the world ‘s superpower is not spared

The following weeks after the Oklahoma City bombing , the federal government put up security barriers around federal buildings to discourage similar attacks . New federal buildings… [banner_entry_footer]
