The September 11 attack paved the way for the USA Patriot Act to be enacted . However , Hank Kalet opines that the Patriot Act tends to ignore the American citizens ‘ right to due process and privacy . It also gags the right of the citizens to free speech particularly those that are aimed against the government . Moreover , Kalet is of the opinion that the freedom the people have should not be exchanged for security as it may put an end to the democracy of the United States

Kalet emphasizes (2004 ) The Bill of Rights , of [banner_entry_middle]

course , is supposed to guarantee us the right to speak freely and to assemble and seek a redress of grievances . It is supposed to protect us from unreasonable searches and seizures by the police , without probable cause , supported by Oath or affirmation , and particularly describing the place to be searched and the person or things to be seized

Nevertheless , I digress with Kalet in his stand that the USA Patriot Act ignores the rights of the citizens to due process and privacy as well as the so-called exchange of freedom over security . The Patriot Act does not stifle free speech and neither is it used by the Bush administration and Congress to attack the rights and freedoms of the people . The Patriot Act ensures that what happened during the September 11 attack will be prevented and those plotting harm against the United States will be put to justice . It is obvious that the Al Qaeda was able to penetrate the security and defense of the country for a long period already . The Patriot Act makes sure that an investigation on the Al Qaeda members inside the country would not allow them to leave unpunished

Some people might not fully appreciate the extent of the Patriotic Act just yet because there has not been another incident like the September 11 attack . But as soon as the country and the government let its guard down , we might have to contend with a bigger and more dangerous attack than that of the September 11
